Prayers for use when someone has died, or on the day of a funeral

Sadly at the moment numbers able to attend a funeral are very limited. For some, it is also not possible to go to visit someone who is dying, or visit the bereaved. We know that this is really hard.

You can find a simple reflection and some prayers which can be used at home here.

Light a candle – Lighting a candle can be a helpful way to pray for someone. You can do this online here. An online candle will help you think about someone who has died and pray for all those who miss them.

If you want to pray over the next few days you might like to use these words:
Dear God,
Thank you for ___________________,
for all that they meant to me and others.
I so wanted to say goodbye,
to be alongside my friends and family.
Help me to know you are there,
Holding all my hopes,
Holding all those I love, especially __________________,
And holding me this day.
Draw close with your peace and hope. Amen.
