Spiritual Communion

spiritual communion

Spiritual Communion is perhaps a forgotten part of our Anglican tradition. The 1549 Prayer Book said that if the person is so sick as to be unable to receive the elements but is repentant, they eat and drink spiritually.

Canon Dr Grant Bayliss, Precentor of Christ Church Cathedral, has written a moving article about the practice of Spiritual Communion and commends it to us when we are unable to receive the Sacrament. You can read his article here.

You can also download a form of service that you can use in your homes here.

Why not use it when Mark and Ilona are offering the Eucharist each Sunday at 10 am or when you are watching an online service?
